Hello Ramblers,
The Ramble is a steep, rocky, slippery and sometimes snowy/wet event. It will be your slowest 10K on record! Expect to walk or power hike some of the more technical sections of trail. Please exercise caution on the steep, rocky and leafy downhills. Trail-specific shoes with some traction are a must. We want everyone to have a safe race and preserve their ankles!
You can check out the course on Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/6128461521
It’s ~5.7 miles with over ~1100 feet of climbing.
There are a couple of stream crossings in the last mile. Be prepared for wet feet.
Course marking: We will mark the course with red surveyor tape on Friday afternoon. Our approach is to heavily mark intersections or side trails so you stay on course. Where the trail is obvious, we will have red tape every few hundred yards. If you run more than three minutes without seeing a trail marker, brush up on your navigation skills! As it’s a fairly small range, you should be around people most of the time, give or take a few minutes. Map and familiarity with the course is a racer responsibility. A map is provided below.
RMC Trail Map is available for purchase.
We will have many volunteers out on course. Please thank them!
Weather:
As many of you know, the weather has usually played a factor in the character of this race. Come prepared for cold, rain, or snow and hope for only one of the three. And, yes, we have even had sunny warm Rambles!
For comfort, bring a full set of warm, dry clothes and shoes for after the race.
Race Proceeds:
The Randolph Ramble donates its proceeds to support The Randolph Mountain Club. If you are doing this race or have ever hiked in the Northern Presidentials, you’ve been on RMC trails. They maintain over 100 miles of trails, cabins and shelters on a very, very tight budget. Please consider joining the RMC. Every dollar counts.
If anything substantial changes, or we have last-minute details, we will email you on Friday night. Otherwise, we’ll see you on Saturday!
